CameraMouse to Show Hands-free Computer Control at Washington ADA Anniversary Event July 27

ABILENE, Texas, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- CameraMouse, software that enables hands-free computer control, will be one of a select group of exhibitors at next week's Assistive Technology Exhibit and Policy Forum at the U.S. Department of Commerce headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Working with a standard USB Web camera, CameraMouse software allows users to control the screen cursor with subtle head movements. A click is accomplished by keeping the cursor on an icon for a second or two.

The Department of Commerce was looking for the nation's most innovative assistive technologies, according to Bill Minter, vice president of CameraMouse, Inc. "Assistive technology is advancing very rapidly, with applications moving to standard platforms. People with disabilities benefit with access to more solutions that don't cost as much as dedicated technology."

Next week's event is planned to recognize the 14th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. It will be held Tuesday, July 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Main Lobby of the U.S. Department of Commerce building, 14th Street and Constitution Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C. A news release from the Technology Administration of the Department of Commerce should be available at http://www.technology.gov.

CameraMouse was originally developed by Professors Jim Gips and Margit Betke at Boston College. It was licensed by a team from the IC2 Institute at The University of Texas at Austin who later formed a company and continued development. A fully-functional 30-day evaluation copy of CameraMouse version 2.0 software is available at the company Web site, http://www.cameramouse.com.
